Director of Operations — Full-time

Alive Community Outreach is seeking a values-aligned, detail-oriented Director of Operations to join our executive team. This full-time position will help lead the internal systems that support our mission of building peace in schools and the broader community.

Position Summary

You will lead internal systems that support Alive’s mission — including human resources, finance coordination, and broader organizational operations. This is a key leadership role for someone who is people-oriented, detail-driven, and passionate about sustainable, values-aligned infrastructure.

As part of the executive team, you’ll work closely with the Executive Director and other department leaders to ensure Alive remains a healthy, responsive, and well-functioning organization.

Location & Schedule

  • Location: 300 E Wayne St., Fort Wayne, IN

  • Status: Full-time with benefits

  • Reports to: Executive Director

  • Start Date: Spring/Summer 2025

Compensation

This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and competitive for similar nonprofit roles. The anticipated range will be discussed with candidates during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources (50%)

  • Lead onboarding and offboarding processes

  • Administer employee benefits and serve as liaison to providers

  • Maintain and update HR policies and employee handbook

  • Coordinate recruitment and hiring processes

  • Support supervisors in addressing performance issues with a restorative approach

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and internal policies

Finance & Budget Coordination (30%)

  • Lead the preparation of the annual organizational budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and program leads

  • Monitor organizational spending and budget alignment

  • Coordinate with the bookkeeper to maintain accurate financial records

  • Oversee invoicing and ensure timely payments

  • Review vendor contracts, benefits, and services to ensure cost-effectiveness

  • Recommend new tools or systems that support team sustainability

  • Provide regular financial updates to the executive team

Organizational Operations (20%)

  • Develop and refine internal systems and tools

  • Improve communication and workflow across departments

  • Support team scheduling, internal documentation, and staff rhythms

  • Help shape a strong, values-aligned organizational culture

What We’re Looking For

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, especially in nonprofit management, human resources, public administration, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience in operations, HR, or finance

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit operations, HR, finance, or similar roles

  • Strong organizational and systems-thinking skills

  • Familiarity with HR best practices and nonprofit budgeting

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills

  • Deep alignment with our mission of nonviolence, justice, and beloved community

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Bonus if You Have

  • Experience in a growing nonprofit organization

  • Familiarity with Gusto, QuickBooks, Mineral, or related platforms

  • Interest in long-term planning, sustainability, and team wellness

High School Peace Advocate - Full-Time

Position Summary

Embark on a unique and impactful journey as a High School Peace Advocate, where your role is centered on making significant and tangible changes in our community and schools. Through our partnership with local school districts, you will be pivotal in nurturing a culture of peace in one of our partner high schools, mentoring student peacemakers and developing innovative conflict reconciliation strategies. Your unique insights and experiences will contribute to our collective goal of creating a more peaceful and just community. We are committed to fostering an inclusive workforce, where varied perspectives and backgrounds are not only welcomed but seen as essential to our mission and team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and mentor student leaders for Peacemaker Academy, our summer nonviolent leadership program.

  • Actively participate in team-based planning and execution of Peacemaker Academy.

  • Lead weekly afterschool Peace Club sessions and support emerging student-led peacemaking initiatives.

  • Build trusting relationships with students by engaging in various school locations, including the Peace Room, hallways, and cafeterias.

  • Collaborate closely with school administrators and staff to align efforts and maximize the impact of peacemaking initiatives.

  • Collaborate with district and school support staff, integrating approved practices in restorative discipline and justice.

  • Observe and report serious school policy violations, focusing on maintaining a safe and respectful school environment.

  • Conduct restorative circles, participate in reentry conferences, and assist in developing student support plans.

  • Monitor and analyze school-wide data on student behavior to tailor interventions.

  • Attend school district professional learning sessions and follow all employee work rules and policies.

  • Lead mediations in cases of violence or aggression.

  • Demonstrate flexibility with occasional work beyond regular school hours.

  • Assist in coordinating volunteer groups like the 'Peace Family.'

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in youth engagement and conflict resolution.

  • Deep commitment to nonviolence as a way of life.

  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and personal development.

  • Exceptional communication skills and collaborative spirit.

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing projects and inspiring teams.

  • Cultural competency and understanding of diverse student populations.

  • Creative and innovative thinking in program development.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

  • Willingness and ability to pass a background check.

Hours and Benefits

  • Work hours generally align with the school day, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend events. After the school year ends, Peace Advocates work through the month of June to plan and lead our Peacemaker Academy summer program. The month of July is off for rest and self-care.

  • 8 weeks of cumulative time off, plus additional personal days.
