High School Peace Advocate - Full-Time

Position Summary

Embark on a unique and impactful journey as a High School Peace Advocate, where your role is centered on making significant and tangible changes in our community and schools. Through our partnership with local school districts, you will be pivotal in nurturing a culture of peace in one of our partner high schools, mentoring student peacemakers and developing innovative conflict reconciliation strategies. Your unique insights and experiences will contribute to our collective goal of creating a more peaceful and just community. Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and mentor student leaders for Peacemaker Academy, our summer nonviolent leadership program.

  • Actively participate in team-based planning and execution of Peacemaker Academy.

  • Lead weekly afterschool Peace Club sessions and support emerging student-led peacemaking initiatives.

  • Build trusting relationships with students by engaging in various school locations, including the Peace Room, hallways, and cafeterias.

  • Collaborate closely with school administrators and staff to align efforts and maximize the impact of peacemaking initiatives.

  • Collaborate with district and school support staff, integrating approved practices in restorative discipline and justice.

  • Observe and report serious school policy violations, focusing on maintaining a safe and respectful school environment.

  • Conduct restorative circles, participate in reentry conferences, and assist in developing student support plans.

  • Monitor and analyze school-wide data on student behavior to tailor interventions.

  • Attend school district professional learning sessions and follow all employee work rules and policies.

  • Lead mediations in cases of violence or aggression.

  • Demonstrate flexibility with occasional work beyond regular school hours.

  • Assist in coordinating volunteer groups like the 'Peace Family.'

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in youth engagement and conflict resolution.

  • Deep commitment to nonviolence as a way of life.

  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and personal development.

  • Exceptional communication skills and collaborative spirit.

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing projects and inspiring teams.

  • Cultural competency and understanding of diverse student populations.

  • Creative and innovative thinking in program development.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

  • Willingness and ability to pass a background check.

Hours and Benefits

  • Work hours generally align with the school day, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend events. After the school year ends, Peace Advocates work through the month of June to plan and lead our Peacemaker Academy summer program. The month of July is off for rest and self-care.

  • 8 weeks of cumulative time off, plus additional personal days.
